travel asia vietnam nha trang countryside

We took a group tour that advertised it went into the countryside where we could see traditional Vietnamese farm life.
They actually took us, more or less, into the suburbs of Ho Chi Minh City where the real countryside was starting to blend with the city.
The best part was visiting a country market... it degraded from there to a "country home" stage set, a commune, and a staged farming scene.

Another paradox... We visited so many elaborate gilded temples and pagodas where it appeared they worshipped ancestors or their souls.
Yet, apparently, here were the actual graves of their ancestors amid the weeds and trash.
So much to learn about this culture...

Women "tending the fields" with their water buffalo, Nha Trang, Vietnam, 2020.
This scene involved a seemingly endless line of tour buses stopping for an organized photo opportunity.
Since the women were tending a patch of unused weeds next to a relatively comfortable house, they must make a good living from the tour companies.
Still, it did provide an opportunity to photograph local people and their water buffalo.
